Frequently asked questions
General
You will meet with Coach Shawn and he will evaluate your player and discuss in detail what he's seeing and the outlook for improvement. This 1st "lesson" does includes some reps and activity, however, the focus is more/less on identifying what is going on "good/bad" and how best to help out the player moving forward. Subsequent lessons include much more physical activity. To ensure I have ALL the information I need to begin our 1st lesson, please make sure to fill out the "New Player Info Form": https://forms.gle/TjFvBhe2Cn78Ky4e6
This is a typical question we get. Short answer is NO. Please refrain from coaching your player from the "sideline". You are paying your hard earned money to seek professional help for your player and it's best to allow the coach to do their job to the best of their ability without your "help". This can come across the wrong way, but this is how we've done it for a decade and we like the results. Sometimes this is hard, but you are welcome to speak with coach before or after the lesson for guidance on the matter. Refrain from answering questions for the player, speaking for them and getting their attention during the lesson. 99% of th time it's never a problem, but sometimes it an be a new experience for players and parents alike. Parents are asked to step back and be a silent spectator. We welcome feedback before and after the lesson, but during the lesson it can be disruptive to the flow and process. Please respect the process.
Siblings and Guests:
PLEASE READ.....The barn is not a playground. Please respect the facility and all the equipment and contents in and around the property. -----> Do not allow people with you to touch or play with/on any of the equipment. We do not have childcare, so if siblings attend they need to silent and not drawing the attention of the player in any way. Anyone in attendance should not interact, disrupt or otherwise draw the attention of the player being coached. Any damage will be the responsibility of the parent.
Safety Related:
All in attendance will remain back from all hitting nets/cages 6 feet or more. Stretching occurs and will inflict injury from bats and balls if you get inside the 6 ft. buffer needed. For players and those in attendance...NEVER STAND NEXT TO A NET OR BATTING CAGE EVER! EVEN IF IT SEEMS OR APPEARS SAFE--DO NOT!! Nets stretch a considerable amount and injury can occur.
Southern Maryland. We are centrally located in Hollywood, MD which is in St. Mary's County, Maryland. It's about a 60 minute drive from Washington, DC. Directions are in an email you will received upon registering for your lesson. You will receive two emails (registration email and a purchase invoice) if you are registered for a lesson. Directions to our facility are included in the REGISTRATION CONFIRMATION EMAIL. The Purchase Invoice email does not include directions. You need to show up 15 mins early, so as to come in, get settled and have your gear out and ready to use once your start time begins. There are typically lessons going on before and after you, so if you arriving early allows us to maximize our time together. IF you arrive late for any reason, we still must end at the scheduled end time, please be aware of this.
Bring all obvious baseball/softball related gear you would use for the related skill(s) we are working on during our lesson. This is not exhaustive, but a general idea is for pitchers will bring a glove, baseball cap and sneakers (or turf shoes). Hitters bring a bat, helmet (C-Flap strongly encouraged), batting gloves. SHOES: NO CLEATS, NO METAL SPIKES, NO MOULDED CLEATS. Clothing should be loose fitting, athletic type which allows for movement and comfort while exercising. In the spring/summer/fall it can get warm in the barn, so your player may need to shed layers due to heat & humidity. In the cooler months, they may need to add layers, due to the chilly and cold temps. Prepare for flexibility depending on the climate of that day. Also, bring water for hydration as your player is working hard during the lesson.
Please Note:
CROCS, SANDALS or anything even close ARE NOT ALLOWED. Part of taking training seriously is preparing properly. Wearing these will result in Coach Shawn deeming them unsafe or inappropriate and not allowing you to participate. If this is you, please note--NO refunds for your not being prepared for our lesson (same goes if you fail to bring equipment for hitting/pitching). This is not negotiable. Basically, you must bring & wear baseball appropriate gear for practicing baseball. We train indoors for the most part, so please prepare accordingly. IF you have questions, contact Coach Shawn at least 48 hours prior to your start time.
The online waiver you agree to when you are registering on the Swift website/app covers it more extensively, but baseball/softball training is very dangerous. Injury is always a reality when training. Do not sign up for lessons without fully reading the online waiver (found in Swift) & understanding the inherent dangers of participation. The waiver is part of your account creation process.
